Deal With Devil The Real Cause of Haiti Earthquake

While the world is gathering support and aid to help Haiti after the January 12 Earthquake, Pat Robertson enlightened us with an explanation of why the disaster happened in the first place. It's because Haitians (actually their ancestors) made a pact with the devil. Simple, isn't it?

Of course, Pats expertise does not stop at Haiti and Earthquakes. Avid readers of the LOL parts of the net probably remember his expertly explanation of hurricane Katrina. According to him that devastation was God's punishment for abortions performed in the USA. Reading his pearls of wisdom many of us, ordinary sinners must think "He is so smart. He is so educated. He is deep like ... a frying pan." What mind it must take to connect the hurricane with abortions? The same mind that regards a religious ceremony at the start of a rebellion as a "pact with the Devil".

Let's put aside the fact that he sees everyone who doesn't share his religious primitivism as Devil worshippers and have a look at what "pact with the devil" is he referring to?

What Pat has in mind is the "Bois Caïman ceremony" held on August 14 1791, which is regarded as the starting point of the Haitian rebellion against the French (uprising took place few days later on August 22). Voodoo priest (houngan) Dutty Boukman organized the ceremony and adressed the Haitians with the words:

The god who created the earth; who created the sun that gives us light. The god who holds up the ocean; who makes the thunder roar. Our God who has ears to hear. You who are hidden in the clouds; who watch us from where you are. You see all that the white has made us suffer. The white man’s god asks him to commit crimes. But the god within us wants to do good. Our god, who is so good, so just, He orders us to revenge our wrongs. It’s He who will direct our arms and bring us the victory. It’s He who will assist us. We all should throw away the image of the white men’s god who is so pitiless. Listen to the voice for liberty that speaks in all our hearts.

Yup, spoken like a really mean Devil worshipper. Aren't we all glad we have Pat (and other creatures similar to him) around to enlighten us.
